Context

CapMagic is a self-initiated, company-funded internal product suite at Philips. It didn't start as an assigned project — I identified operational pain points in how teams handled presales assessments, device-integration projects, and licence auditing, and proposed building tools to fix them.

Problem

Across presales, medical-device integration, and licence auditing, teams were relying on slow, manual processes to do work that software could do faster and more consistently — but no internal tool existed to do it.

My Role

I'm the product owner and designer for CapMagic: I identify the operational pain points, design the concept, the UI/UX, and the prototypes, and I direct a dedicated developer who builds what I design.

Process

CapMagic has been built out in three generations, each targeting a different operational pain point I identified:

  • Generation 1 (2018): a presales site-assessment desktop application.
  • Generation 2 (2019): a medical-device-integration cloud SaaS product, used alongside Epic and InterSystems.
  • Generation 3 (2020): a licence-utilisation auditing module that cut multi-file analysis from hours down to seconds.

Key Insights

  • Each generation of CapMagic solved a distinct operational bottleneck rather than trying to be one general-purpose tool, which kept each module focused and usable for the team relying on it.
  • The licence-utilisation auditing module's move from manual, multi-file analysis to a process taking seconds shows the scale of time that a well-targeted internal tool can return to a team.

Outcome

CapMagic continues to run across all three generations, alongside enterprise systems like Epic and InterSystems in the device-integration workflow. My work on it has been rated top performer in Innovation, and colleagues in professional services have recognised the impact directly.

Sameh has gone consistently above and beyond… The innovative solutions he is coming up with periodically makes him an exceptional asset to the company.

What I'd Do Next

I'd like to formalise user research across the teams using each CapMagic module, so future generations are prioritised against evidence from their day-to-day use rather than the pain points I observe directly.
